The women’s basketball team’s magical ride came to a crashing halt Sunday in Raleigh, N.C., as the No. 5 seed Bonnies fell to top-seeded Notre Dame, 79-35, in an NCAA Tournament Raleigh Regional semifinal.
Sophomore guard CeCe Dixon led the Bonnies with 13 points. Sophomore forward Doris Ortega added 11. The Irish held senior guard Jessica Jenkins (0-for-6) scoreless in her St. Bonaventure finale. Senior forward Megan Van Tatenhove scored four and redshirt senior guard Armelia Horton scored three in their final games.
The Bonnies shot just 9-for-48 (.188) from the field.
Natalie Novosel led the No. 4 (AP) Irish (33-3) with 16 points. The defending national runners-up led by as many as 40 en route to their second straight regional final appearance. The Irish will play No. 2 seed Maryland for a Final Four berth Tuesday.
