Dear campus community,
As I was leaving the PNC Arena in Raleigh, an elderly Notre Dame alumus, dressed in the dreadful green that N.D. seems to love, stopped me. He wanted me to know why the Bona fans didn’t seem to understand the score. I assured him that we certainly understood the reality of the numbers. I was also delighted to explain to him that the Bona fans understand the numbers: the quality and character of our student athletes, the gift of students and coaches who are always learning what it means to be and become a team, and the presence of the smallest university in history to be in the Sweet 16.
Last week in Tallahassee, I also had the privileged opportunity to glimpse many of the inner workings of our athletic department and communications staff on the road. What an amazing group of dedicated, skilled and hard-working team players focused on the million details that needed attending to on behalf of, in this instance, the women’s basketball team.
Our Bona Pride should run deep and wide — no apologies or explanations needed.
Thank you to our Bonnies, Coach Crowley and everyone connected with this great effort! Thank you also to Coach Schmidt and our men’s team — another great effort!
Sincerely,
Brother Ed Coughlin, O.F.M.
