Former BV editor finds issue in political fairness

in Letter to the editor/OPINION by
In the March 16 issue of  The Bona Venture, a column by Chris Graham appeared under the title “Action should be taken against Limbaugh.” As a former editor of The BV (school year ‘46-’47), I must express wonder at the obvious discrepancy between the title and the writer’s expressed admiration of the First Amendment for “allowing people to express their views, thoughts and opinions however they want, whenever they want.”

What kind of action is Mr. Graham calling for? Legal, punitive, professional? What happened to Graham’s high regard for “the people’s right to express their views…” ? Does this apply only when those views are in accord with Mr. Graham’s? In line with this thinking, where is the logical continuum between Mr. Limbaugh’s freedom of expression and a call for action against Mr. Limbaugh?

Now, personally, I would have used gentler language to describe the 30-year old “activist” law student, but Mr. Limbaugh did apologize to her, twice if I read the news report correctly. She rejected his apologies – her prerogative, of course.

Speaking of “gentler language,” I have a question. It should properly be addressed to the entire School of Journalism and and Mass Communication as well as the BV – but why has the leftist, progressive media almost totally withheld commentary, much less condemnation of the outright vile, vulgar (to put it nicely) remark make by the clown erroneously identified as a comedian, Bill Maher,  when he truly reached into the sewer in a pathetic, sick effort to be sensational when he publicly attacked Sarah Palin in one of his filthy tirades? That was truly outside the bounds, and never a question about it? And, no apology! And, no phone call from the President (FYI – Mrs. Palin is a former Governor, vice presidential candidate and is a lady).

And the President never returned the million-dollar check which Maher had sent to his political action committee (PAC).

Try again, Mr. Graham.
