Exams, papers and projects will consume the minds of every college student as the semester comes to a close. The graduating class of 2012 has additional worry: commencement plans.
That’s why tomorrow, from 1-4 p.m., different offices will be hosting the fourth annual Senior One Stop Shop in the Richter Center, where seniors can wrap up their graduation preparation work.
The event caters to a busy student’s schedule as a way to get everything done at once.
“This event provides a day, time and place for graduating students to take care of all paperwork needed to graduate, sign up for the alumni network and pick up commencement tickets,” said Steve Kuchera, assistant director of the Center for Activities, Recreation and Leadership (CARL).
All students graduating or planning to walk at graduation will receive a ticket upon entering the event.
The ticket will contain a list of the tables. Students will stop at Alumni Services to learn about how to connect with SBU as an alum, the Registrar’s Office to finish graduation paperwork, and the Billing Office to check whether any bills need to be paid.
Students will also stop at the Financial Aid Office, the Career and Professional Readiness Center, and university representatives if their plans include graduate school. Student Life will be distributing commencement tickets as the last stop, and students must visit all tables in order to purchase their tickets.
“We collaborated with the Alumni Services, Alumni Board, Residence Life, Career Center and the Center for Activities, Recreation and Leadership,” Kuchera said.
As the students move from table to table, their ticket will receive X’s for each table they visit.
Friday, the bookstore will be selling caps, gowns and hoods. In-stock wardrobe for bachelor’s degree recipients will cost $54 plus tax, and wardrobe for master’s degree recipients will cost $58 plus tax. In addition, the Alumni Office will be raffling off two Senior Week bracelets, and only students who attend will be put into the raffle.
“We expect 275-300 students to attend,” Kuchera said.
Students are welcome to stop by the Richter Center anytime between 1 and 4 p.m., but are advised to reserve enough time to get to all the tables.
