St. Bonaventure University dissolved the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) this summer.

CCE, which was funded by a grant the university received, shut down operations and sent all of its endeavors out to other campus clubs and organizations

“What we did in light of the lack of funding for The Center for Community Engagement, we did some reorganization,” Brother Ed Coughlin said. “No jobs were lost or positions cut,” said Larry Sorokes, last year’s administrator for CCE, and current assistant vice president for grants administration and lifelong learning.

“Sister Suzanne [Kush] and Father Francis [Di Spigno] have assumed responsibilities that were under Larry Sorokes before,” Coughlin said. “We had 450 students for freshmen day of service, spread out through 14 different community center sites. Sister Suzanne coordinated all of that.”

The Warming House and Bona Buddies were two of CCE’s biggest operations. Both are portal outreach programs that have been in place for 40 years. They are now part of University Ministries.  Other operations, such as First Year Service Experience, are run through the Franciscan Center for Social Concern, Coughlin said.

“The Warming House, previously run by CCE, stayed open to patrons throughout the transition.”
