The Student Government Association (SGA) hosted its first cleanup of the year, from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday all across campus
SGA Executive Board President Cody Clifford was happy with the turn out.
“We had 15 people show up, which I think is great since it was our first one,” Clifford said
The SGA cleanups are held on campus. At the end of this month’s cleanup, a grand total between 10 to15 bags of garbage was collected, Clifford said.
“Our group of 15 started in the back parking lots near the tennis courts and made our way all the way to Constitution Ave and Doyle,” Clifford said.
SGA is hoping to hold a cleanup every month, and already have two scheduled for the months of October and November, however are still brainstorming on what to do during the winter months. Clifford said that when he organized a program through FYSP (First Year Service Program), volunteers helped janitors paint closets on a day where weather was bad and is thinking of doing something similar.
Clifford said he thinks it’s important to give back and volunteer because it’s not only beneficial to SGA and the campus, but also for the people volunteering. He also said volunteering is an important value of the Franciscan culture.
The next cleanup is from 1-3pm on Sunday, Oct. 28. The cleanup for the month of November is from 1-3pm on Sunday Nov. 11.
“Anyone is welcome to help out,” Clifford said. “If you are interested you can email me (cliffocj10@bonaventure.edu) for more details or show up to the SGA office (RC 3) at 12:45 on either of those dates.”
