Finals week is approaching. Stress levels are high and patience is low. Presentations, tests and papers take over our lives. In times like these, we could all use a little pick-me-up.

The creators of the Facebook page “Sbu Compliments” are trying to do just that.

The new Facebook page, run by two students, allows any Bonaventure student to become friends with it. Once you friend the page on Facebook, you can send the creators a positive message about another person on campus (as long as they’re friends with them as well). Once the creators receive the compliment, they will create the post and tag the other person in it. The whole process remains completely anonymous.

“I saw that a lot of my friends were joining pages like Sbu Compliments at their own universities. I thought it would be really nice to have something like that at Bonas,” said the creator. “So, I started the account on Facebook and asked my best friend to help me run it.”

So far, the page has 305 friends. The creators of the page wish to remain anonymous.

“If people knew who we were, we’re worried some people wouldn’t send us compliments because they’d know the people reading them,” said one of the creators.

This time of the year can be hard for college students. Not only do we have finals, but this is the time of year when some students begin to battle home sickness. With Christmas just a few weeks away, most college students are anxious to get home and start celebrating the holiday with their loved ones. But until the last final is done, students have to stay at school.

So if you see someone struggling with a bad day and you’re too shy to say something to them or don’t want to come off as strange, why not send them a compliment on the Facebook page?

Cyber-bullying has become such a common thing as of late. It’s refreshing to see a page dedicated entirely to compliments and kindness, instead of some of the other horrible things you see on social media.

“I think that giving compliments is a really important thing to do, because it not only makes another person happy, but it also makes you notice the goodness in other people,” said the creator.

Once you add the page on Facebook, students will be able to see all of the compliments on their homepage. It’s a nice thing to see.

“I think it’s a nice way to spread kindness around campus through simple messages that can mean a lot to people,” said Emma Arcara, a sophomore education major.

Students should take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. The page was made for people to compliment others and to spread a little joy around campus.

“It doesn’t require a huge amount of skill to say something nice about someone else,” said the creator.

‘Tis the season.
