Andrew Brennan, ’10, created a Facebook page for Jeff Peterson, associate professor and Department Chair for the Department of Finance, who is battling cancer.
Brennan created the page with the hopes of getting people to pray for Peterson.
“I believe in the power of prayer,” Brennan said. “Many people would gladly pray for someone when they know about it. And many people didn’t know about his condition.”
According to Brennan, the unexpected death of John Watson, former business professor at SBU, reaffirms that people never actually know how long they have to live, and when someone has a sickness it is especially important to have awareness and prayer.
Brennan also mentioned his hopes in getting a vast amount of prayers for Peterson including personal emails. If you would like to send Peterson your prayers, email him at peterson@sbu.ebu or post on the Facebook page “Pray for Dr. Peterson.”
“Dr. Peterson has been such a great influence on many of our lives, while he is battling cancer, I hope that our emails of prayers and encouragement help bring a smile to his face,” Brennan said.
“Peterson is a great guy who has helped and taught me a lot. He is an extremely intelligent guy; I’d be pleased with being half as smart as him one day,” Zack Scott, a senior accounting and finance major said. “It’s an awful situation he and his family have been put into and I just hope that everything works out.”
Thomas Socci, ’12, also expressed his thoughts about Peterson.
“Dr. Peterson was my advisor through my four years at Bonas. He was instrumental in my development as a student, positioning myself to succeed after graduation and guiding me to where I am today,” Socci said. “For that I will never be able to thank him enough. From the numerous classes I took with him, and our discussions that we would have in his office outside of class, I really got to appreciate what a special teacher and person he is. My prayers are now with him, Laura, his family and the St. Bonaventure Community as his continues to battle during this difficult time.”
