The Class of 2013 plans to update the look of campus by donating a new West Entrance sign and map for its senior gift.
The senior class also plans on having a pull-off station, similar to the main entrance, set up.
According to Robbie Chulick, a senior journalism and mass communication major, the Senior Class Gift Committee voted the entranceway as the best option because it is a popular entranceway onto campus.
“The current sign and area around that sign is not the most welcoming,” Chulick said. “We feel the new sign will help the campus to be more welcoming.”
Chulick said the ultimate goal is to make the area more appealing to visitors, as well as both current and future students.
According to Chulick, fundraising for the gift began over homecoming weekend. The class sold Bona’s-themed iPhone 4/4s/5 cases to alumni, basketball fans and students. The class earned about $400 from selling the iPhone cases. They plan on having more fundraisers to contribute to the final cost of their gift.
The class is currently accepting donations and is encouraging every senior to donate $20.13 (that number comes from the class year). According to Chulick, any students who donate more than the encouraged amount will receive a special recognition at commencement this spring.
Currently, there has been no mention of the advancement office being in the process of finding a Board of Trustees member to match the senior class gift donations, Chulick said.
“It happened last year when trustee Colette Dow heard about the Class of 2012 project and wanted to personally get involved, but I haven’t heard of anything like that happening again at this point,” Alan Riddle, assistant director of the Annual Fund, said.
The class, however, hopes to have a successful campaign.
“Last year’s campaign was a great success and the Class of 2012 raised over $10,000 to make renovations to the Rathskeller. We hope to beat that number this year, despite a slightly smaller senior class,” Chulick said
