Spring break crept up fast for the Bonaventure community, and the thought of it is enough to help power students through midterms. Break brings a smile to the faces of students, and the exciting news of being halfway through the semester will follow each student no matter where they go.
Some students will head home for the nine-day break. Although it’s not the beach, there are no complaints from Lea Battaglia, a sophomore English major, who plans to head home Friday after class.
“I can’t wait to get home and relax,” Battaglia said. “I just want to lay on my couch, not have anything to worry about for a few days and just spend time with my family.”
Michael Loffredo, a sophomore journalism and mass communication major, said he plans to do the opposite. Loffredo will head to Florida and enjoy break with his family.
“I have family that lives in Florida,” Loffredo said. “It’s really convenient because I get to spend time with them and soak up some sun, but what I’m really looking forward to is attending Yankees Spring Training.”
Midterm break also allows student-athletes, especially ones who live quite a distance from Bonaventure, to journey home and get refreshed and rejuvenated. Taylor Anderson, a member of the swim team, lives in Canada, so getting home isn’t always easy to do.
“While some of my friends are looking forward to the beach, I’m looking forward to Canada,” said Anderson, a freshman journalism and mass communication major. “I’m going to have to train during my time off, but I’m home and I get to relax, and that’s all that matters.”
Other students involved with campus sports actually have to stay at Bonaventure. Steve Marcus, a junior journalism and mass communication major, will be staying on campus to work with the men’s basketball team to fulfill his duties as manager. The Bonnies will stay together because they have games throughout break.
“We play at Duquesne on Saturday,” Marcus said. “Then the following week we have a full week of practice to prepare for Charlotte. My break won’t be anything extravagant and definitely nothing warm, but I get to hit the gym with the team, and that’s alright by me.”
Other non-athletic students, like sophomore strategic communication major Dariana Bera, will stay on the Bonaventure campus over spring break.
“I would much rather go home,” Bera said. “But with no car, I won’t be able to go home to the Bronx, but just being able to relax will be nice. Campus will be quiet and no class means I can catch up on sleep.”
Whether it’s staying on campus, heading home or going south to soak up some sun, the Bonaventure community will return in March refreshed and ready to continue the extraordinary journey.
