The women’s lacrosse team lost to the Colgate Raiders (5-4) Wednesday by a final score of 15-4, dropping their record to 4-2 overall.

The Bonnies have a busy week ahead of them as they will travel Iona (2-5) tomorrow, Canisius (5-3) next Monday, and finally travel to Alfred University Duquesne (3-4) next Friday. Head Coach Ryan Lynn said the game against the Gaels will be an even matchup against a strong Iona team.

“We feel like we’re going to match up pretty well,” Lynn said. “We’re running on the same caliber as them, but we’ve seen a little bit more success than them so far. It should be a fairly even matched game. We’re going to set out with a defensive mindset just to slow their transition game down, and as we slow them down, we’re hoping to open up our offense. We’ve done a lot of work in the past week on our offense, so we’re hoping that the offense will start to come together in the Iona game.”

Lynn said the game against the rival Canisius Golden Griffins will be a tough game as the Bonnies look to win after losing last year’s competition.

“It’s in the back of the minds of the girls that we got lit up last year by Canisius,” Lynn said. “We want to go up there and reestablish that we’re a contender in the Western New York area. If we can slow down the transition game, we can take care of the ball on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. We give up too many opportunities in games due to the transition game.”

The Duquesne Dukes pose as the Bonnies’ first Atlantic 10 matchup of the season. Lynn said the game is winnable, but it comes down to executing on the offensive side of the ball.

“Last year, they beat us between the thirties, and we need to be able to slow them down,” Lynn said. “We can stop them on the defensive end. Our offense is growing and coming together, so we think we can get some solid goals. Our performance in the draw circle and the transition game are going to be key factors in games against quick opponents.”

The Bonnies only had 13 shots on goal in the 15-4 loss on Wednesday, compared to Colgate’s 24. Sophomore attacker Jenna Schlagenhauf led the team with two goals, increasing her team-leading yearly total to 18.

Senior defender Kellyn Savage and sophomore attacker Mackenzie Jordan scored the only other two goals for the team. The only assist notched by the Bonnies on the day was by freshman midfielder Carrie Kubasta. Junior goalkeeper Karly Kocis allowed 12 goals while junior goalkeeper Sara Schlagenhauf allowed three and received the loss.
