It’s finally that time of year.
The television shows that left us frazzled with cruel cliffhangers and a thousand questions will finally make their return and give anxious and excited fans the answers they crave.
In the short time between a season finale and the season premier, a lot can happen. This year in particular, huge changes have rocked the worlds of some of our favorite and most beloved characters on the small screen.
Travis Buckley, a junior accounting major, said he looks forward to the Sept. 23 return of “How I Met Your Mother,” especially since the mother was revealed.
“‘How I Met Your Mother’ is a classic show that is witty, fun and reminiscent of older sitcoms with a modern flare,” Buckley said. “It’s entering its ninth and final season, and promises to deliver a ‘legendary’ ending.”
While the ending of “How I Met Your Mother” is upsetting, an even more heartbreaking incident took fans of the popular show “Glee” by surprise.
On July 13, Cory Monteith, who played the lovable and dancing-impaired Finn Hudson, was found dead in his hotel room from a deadly mix of heroin and alcohol. Monteith’s character didn’t have much of a resolution last season, as Monteith left the show for a month-long stint in rehab.
In the upcoming season, the producers have decided to incorporate Monteith’s death into the show’s plot. Without a doubt, the tribute episode will be hard to watch for any “Glee” fan.
“It’ll be hard to see the characters grieving, because you know the actors actually are,” senior theater major Brooke Perkins, said. “When you’re involved with any sort of production, the people around you become your family. The tribute episode will be difficult to watch because the emotions are going to be so real.”
On the happier side of the television spectrum, the fantasy “Once Upon a Time” will be returning to ABC Sept. 29, and fans of the show anxiously await the first episode. The show, which takes some of our favorite fairy-tale characters and throws them into the modern world, has gained quite the fan base since it first started back in 2011 with nearly 9 million viewers, according to the TV Series Finale website.
“It puts an interesting spin on traditional fairy tales,” junior education major Emma Arcara said. “It’s also very exciting and suspenseful. The second season finale was so intense and left a lot of unanswered questions.”
Continuing with fantasy shows, the intense science-fiction show “Supernatural” will be returning Oct. 8 for its ninth season. The show, which follows the ever-changing lives of Sam and Dean Winchester, has been on the air since 2005 and never fails to tease its fans with shocking plot twists.
Senior sociology major Molly Schaefer has been watching the show since its first season and said she can’t wait for the new season to begin.
“The last episode was so amazing,” Schaefer said. “I just need to know what is going to happen with everything. It’s just going to be amazing to see everything this show has to offer in the ninth season.”
And whether you are awaiting the return of NBC’s “Law and Order: SVU” on Sept. 25, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” on Oct. 13 or FXX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” which premiered Wednesday, the TV line-up for this fall will definitely be entertaining — and a huge source of procrastination.
