On Wednesday, the maintenance department received reports from residents in townhouses 23, 24, 25 and 26 saying the buildings lost cable.
We have a call into the cable company (Time Warner) to come in and fix it,” said Michael Hoffman, executive director for information technology. “The cable TV system is totally owned by Time Warner, so we can’t do anything about it other than call them.”
Hoffman said he received the complaints from maintenance at about 10 a.m. on Wednesday. According to Hoffman, no one knows why the cable isn’t working.
We received several complaints,” he said. “I’m sure it’s all a related problem, so when they fix one, it’ll fix all of them.”
Since the university doesn’t own the cable, maintenance can’t repair it. Only Time Warner employees are permitted touch the cable equipment, according to Hoffman.
“It’s basically us acting as a liaison between the campus and Time Warner,” Hoffman said. “We just let them know and pressure them to fix it, but there’s nothing we can do.”
At the time of publication, Time Warner said they would have a repairman on campus by Saturday.
“They have promised to have someone here by Saturday,” Hoffman said. “We let them know that’s not unacceptable, and they’re trying to get someone here tomorrow (Thursday).”
Hoffman said since the only reports he received are from those townhouses, he believes the problem is on that side of campus only.
“It’s not like service has been shut to the whole campus, it’s just over there,” Hoffman said. “I couldn’t even speculate. We haven’t had any bad weather or anything like that. I don’t know.”
