Hi everyone, and welcome to this week’s Fashion Focus. I hope you all had a great midterm break. I had the best time ever. I am already counting down the weeks until Thanksgiving. Over break, I stayed in Buffalo, and the highlight of my trip was going to the Walden Galleria Mall in Buffalo.
This was my first time in an American mall, so I was excited and completely overwhelmed by the size and the number of shops it contained. The Galleria had all my favorites: H&M, Forever21 and some lovely little boutiques. While in the mall, I admired the window displays and all of the fall/winter collections, which allowed me to notice the major trends this year.
Patterned knitwear, tartan shirts and fur were big trends in many stores. However, what caught my eye the most was the huge selection of statement jewelry. If you have seen me on campus, you can probably tell how much I love statement necklaces and vintage jewelry. I think it adds so much to any outfit, so I have handpicked a selection of key statement pieces that will work perfectly with every wardrobe this Fall/Winter season. Another trend I love is layering; different colors, fabrics and patterns add texture to every outfit as well as warmth and coziness. I have put together an outfit based on the theory of layering. Forever21 and H&M have, in my opinion, the most amazing collections of jewelry to cater to all styles. I have selected the biggest, boldest and most eye-catching pieces I could find. They also have daintier pieces that are equally as pretty. Some are a little pricier than you might like to pay. However, I see a piece of jewelry as an investment that can be worn again and again with any outfit and look different every time. When picking jewelry, think of your wardrobe and what will go with everything. The above pieces would fit perfectly into most wardrobes, and most stay within the student budget.

Layering is a fun, versatile trend every fall and winter. Layer skirts with jumpers, tucked into a skater skirt with tights and socks with fur-trimmed boots. Wear baggy jumpers with leggings and knee-high boots; layer your coats with knit or fur. Patterned outerwear and jumpers are huge this fall/winter. You can wear with bold colors or keep it simple with neutral colors or denim. Layering your clothes gives your outfits dimension and contrast, but most importantly will keep you cozy and warm. Have fun with it, and don’t be afraid of mixing and matching patterns and colors.
