The women’s swimming and diving team fell to Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon at home in the Reilly Center pool. It was the team’s first loss of the season.
Freshman Tanja Kirmse led the Bonnies, placing first in two events. Kirmse won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.67, beating Pittsburgh’s Veronica Lee by 2.6 seconds and teammate Lauren Caldwell by nearly three seconds.
Kirmse later placed first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.35, narrowly beating Pittsburgh’s Melissa Pocsai, who finished with a time of 53.53. Kirmse also added a second-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:54.54, behind Dani Des Tombe of Pittsburgh.
Sophomore Shannon Haberman had a big day for the Bonnies as she placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 10:39.38. Haberman added a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:16.76.
The relay team of senior Jeanette Dietrich, sophomore Taylor Anderson, junior Rachel Bull and Kirmse led the Bonnies and finished third overall in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.53.
Freshman Meghan Bartlett led the Bonnies divers in both the one and three-meter dives. Bartlett placed fourth in the one-meter dive with a score of 219.82 and third in the three-meter dive with a score of 217.94.
The Bonnies compete against Atlantic 10 rivals Duquesne and La Salle Nov. 2 at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
