St. Bonaventure students are seizing internship opportunities across the nation, and some are now receiving recognition for it.
The Career and Professional Readiness Center (CPRC) will acknowledge Simone Bernstein, a senior social entrepreneurship and altruism major, Amy Hohman, junior community mental health major, Angelia Roggie and Alexandra Salerno, senior journalism and mass communication majors and Kelly Sperrazzo, a graduate student the Business Administration program for their internship opportunities.
Pamela Ferman, career counselor and employer relations coordinator, said the Intern Wall of Fame highlights St. Bonaventure students and their experience with their internships.
“The Intern Wall of Fame is located across the hall of Reilly Center 219 and displays the large professional photos and biographies of the winners with their internship information,” Ferman said. “We want to showcase the great internships St. Bonaventure students participate in as well as encourage other students by showing them what great opportunities are out there.”
This is the first year the CPRC introduced the Internship Spotlight program.
“We just developed the program this fall, but we hope to make this an annual event and opportunity to recognize a different group of interns on the wall next year,” Ferman said.
Bernstein said internships help students gain various skills to develop their professionalism.
“All students should apply for internships since they provide a way to gain work experience and transferable skills,” Bernstein said. “By working with a large team of passionate individuals in an internationally recognized non-profit organization, I developed new skills and refined others.”
Sperrazzo said the CPRC helps students applying for internships by practicing mock interviews.
“The Citi internship was posted on College Central, and I was in constant contact with Pam [Ferman] from the career center about my internship search,” Sperrazzo said. “I was always so nervous for interviews, but preparing beforehand with potential answers was helpful and settled the nerves.”
Bernstein offered advice to students who are nervous about applying for internships.
“There are internships available in many disciplines at companies and organizations throughout the nation,” she said. “I hope students nervous about applying for internships will realize the support available at St. Bonaventure. All students looking for summer internships can go to the Career and Professional Readiness Center to receive assistance with their search. They provide help with cover letters, resumes and interviews, which are all extremely valuable components during the internship search.”
