This week’s Fashion Focus was inevitable. Of course, it;s St. Patrick’s Day themed. The holiday originated in Ireland to celebrate the feast of St. Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint. He was born in Scotland but was captured and brought to Ireland to tend sheep. He was held captive until he was 20. During his time in Ireland, he learned the language and adapted to the culture. He turned to priesthood and carried out many miracles, one of which was driving snakes from the Island. St Patrick died on March 17, 461. Thus on the March 17 every year, everyone around the world acts Irish for the day.
We have many traditions to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. One is going to mass to celebrate the feast. Another is wearing shamrocks. St. Patrick used this plant to teach his people about the holy trinity. We cover ourselves in green from head to toe, but why? St. Patrick’s color was originally thought to be blue. However, in the 17th century the color changed to green. The Irish flag is partially green, and being named the “Emerald Isle,” Ireland is stereotypically associated with fields of lush green grass – I can confirm this is correct.
I will be wearing my shamrock and painting myself green. If you would rather not bother with the hassle but want to be Irish for the day, I have provided two boards below to help you get into the St Patrick’s Day spirit.
1: SBU Irish T-Shirt, Hickey Dining Hall: $10
2:Shoes2014.net: Nike Green Blazer $68.98
3:Boohoo.com: Black & White Polka Dot Skirt $20
4: CVS: Green Nail Polish $4
5:Forever21: Orange Chiffon Bow Hair Band $2.80
It’s very simple: all you need is one green garment, and you are Irish for the day. I chose this T-shirt as it’s on sale in the Hickey. I think it is definitely one of the cuter T-shirts St. Bonaventure has to offer, and it’s only $10. This polka dot skirt is very cute and comfortable and can be worn during the day with tights, or without tights for nightwear. The shoes are Nike blazers. They’re suede with fur lining inside and they are a lovely shade of green. Top off your outfit with a hair band. I chose orange because that is my country’s color, and I am biased.
1: SBU Irish T-Shirt, Hickey Dining Hall: $10
2: Foot Locker: New Balance Green Runner $64.99
3: ASOS: Green Beanie $11.29
4: ASOS: Grey Skinny Chino $43.28
Again, this shirt is perfect for the occasion; match it with a pair of colored chinos or denim jeans. I love these New Balance shoes because they are stylish, comfortable and green; what more could you want? Accessorize with a green beanie. It’s still cold so keep those ears warm.
Happy St. Patrick’s day, and I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
