For a quite a few weeks I’ve been contemplating what I’d put in my final article in the BV. Who would I mention? What events did I have to bring up? What wall quote was my favorite? But only one word kept coming to mind: pudgies.
For The Bona Venture’s sake I won’t reveal what account this password is for, but the word pudgies is the one thing stuck in my mind after four years working on the first floor of Rob.
I guess that’s the good stuff, though. The little things only a select few Bonaventure students would understand.
Like that time Tyler Diedrich drove us to Atlantic City to watch Andrew Nicholson and the Bonnies win the Atlantic 10 championship. Tyler played his Goo Goo Dolls album at least eight times. It was torture then, but every time I hear “Slide,” which happens a lot if you go through the Buffalo airport, I can’t help but reminisce.
Or that time Alexandra Salerno fell into the photos room door with a resounding thud. Who would’ve thought she’d become the editor-in-chief one day?
And I’m sure most sports section guys won’t forget one of the most reliable late night writers The Bona Venture ever had: The Bathrobe!
Ah, yes if The Bona Venture walls could talk. They used to, but were painted over this past summer.
But after all the writing, editing, reading, clicking, typing, cussing and laughing one thing stood evident to me; we always made it work.
It was Ryan Papaserge who eventually gave me a shot to write and taught me it was OK to stay up past 6 a.m. because Hickey breakfast wasn’t far away.
It was Tyler who made me assistant sports editor and gave me the tools to effectively cover both the men’s and women’s basketball teams during their NCAA Tournament runs.
It was Sam Wilson who taught me to lay pages, even if he had to deal with Quark for the rest of the night. That’s a feat I still marvel at.
It was Anthony Gannon and Skye Tulio who kept me somewhat sane when all the other sections had left and I was still laying my first page.
And it was Bryan Jackson, Mike Vitron, Chris Graham, Elizabeth Grady, Kerri Linsenbigler, Matthew Laurrie, Nate West, Taylor Nigrelli and countless others who made Wednesday night (and Thursday morning) rather fun.
It’s hard to believe today I’ll send out the final BV laid out in Robinson Hall. I can only hope sexual harassment tiger and the rest of The Bona Venture will move to their proper home sometime in the foreseeable future.
So with that, good luck to the BV next year. I know you guys will kill it with Nate West at the helm. Just be sure to recruit some tall guys so we can finally defeat the Buzz at basketball.
