After a month away from home, students are excited to spend a weekend with their families. The Campus Activities Board and the Center for Activities, Recreation and Leadership will host the annual Family Weekend beginning Friday, September 26. This year’s activities include sporting events, music shows, and the Bonagany Festival in Allegany.

Abby Cohen, Associate Director of Student Activities, said Family Weekend is sure to be a fun-filled time for students, their families, and the community.

“The purpose of Family Weekend is to provide the opportunity for students to welcome their families into the SBU community” Cohen said. “Through this exciting weekend, our students look forward to giving their families a taste of the spirit of SBU. I encourage students to invite their families to take advantage of the numerous activities planned throughout the weekend. Any member of the SBU community is welcome to participate.”

The weekend begins with activities in the Rathskeller on Friday night. An honors tea, a family fun run and family mass are among the many events planned for Saturday. The weekend ends with a Men’s Soccer game.

The university and the town of Allegany co-sponsor the Bonagany festival. Bonagany will take place on Saturday, September 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Main Street in Allegany.

“We welcome anyone from the surrounding community to join in on our day-long celebration filled with vendors, student organizations, local artists, food trucks, live music and more,” Cohen said. “It is great to see the University and community coming together to celebrate!”

There are some new additions to the schedule of events this year. Men’s rugby will face Army at 7 p.m. Saturday night. Also on Saturday night, Dueling Pianos International , a musical competition, will   perform in the Hickey Dining Hall at 8 p.m.

Cohen said Family weekend is intended for all SBU students, but it is something new for the freshmen.

“It is a great way for families to reconnect with their students on Bonaventure’s beautiful campus,” Cohen said. “However, it is particularly exciting for first year students and their families. This is because it is their first time experiencing all that Family Weekend has to offer. Additionally, now that first year students have been immersed into the SBU culture for almost a month, first year students now have the opportunity to show their families what they love about SBU.”
