The women’s rugby team improved to a perfect 3-0 record last Saturday against Fredonia in a 27-10 win.

Senior scrum half Erin Ballou said the Bonnies’ fast pace offense played a large role in winning the game.

“This past weekend, a big factor to our success was being able to move the ball quickly to the outside of the field to catch their defense off guard,” Ballou said. “This generated most of our points. We also played a strong defensive game. We had great tackles and rucks which helped us maintain the majority of the possession during the games.”

Despite shutting out their first two opponents and giving up only 10 points to the Blue Devils, Ballou said there was still room for the club to improve its defense.

“One thing we can improve on is being able to read the field while we are on defense, especially when everyone is tired,” Ballou said. “Fredonia scored one of their tries because we did not read their play fast enough.”

Ballou said the team doesn’t normally change tactics, but they are working on new game plans that may be useful in the next couple of games.

“We don’t really change our strategy from week to week,” Ballou said. “Each week we like to build on what we already know and work on things that need improvement for the upcoming games. This week, we are working a lot on our defensive game. We have been working on new defensive strategies that will help us in our upcoming games.”

The club was scheduled to have a home match tomorrow against St. John Fisher. However, the Cardinals were not able to field a team, so the match was cancelled. The team hopes to arrange a match next weekend instead of their scheduled bye week.
