It’s a big weekend for the women’s soccer team, as it begins conference play against Atlantic 10 opponents Davidson and Richmond. The Bonnies enter the weekend with a 4-5-1 record. The squad has had the opportunity to catch a bit of a breather, as their last game was a 1-0 loss against U. Mass.-Lowell two weeks ago.
Coach Steve Brdarski views the time away from playing as a good thing. According to Brdarski, several of his players were playing through lingering injuries not severe enough to sideline them and other nagging issues. The time off has afforded the squad to heal before their big weekend.
By no means, though, did Brdarski’s squad take it easy. Brdarski has stressed all season long that reps on the practice field is the best way to address the team’s weak spots. Brdarski’s players have also focused on watching game film to go over what’s been working and what hasn’t. The team has been working to increase their scoring as well as to maintain possession well.
According to Brdarski, these are not areas that the team has necessarily struggled with but are definitely things that needed to be worked on before entering conference competition. Fortunately for the squad, Brdarski emphasizes that one of the team’s biggest strengths is its ability to recognize the issue, work on it and apply it – sometimes doing all that in a single half.
The Bonnies play Davidson today at 3:30 p.m. at home. Davidson is coming into today’s game with a 3-7-1 record – giving them the second worst record in A-10 pre-conference play. The Bonnies will pack up and hit the road to kick it about against Richmond (6-5 in pre-conference play and sixth overall in the A10) at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
