St. Bonaventure University’s ENACTUS team is to host a Canvas for a CURE event on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Students and the local community can donate $5 to paint an anonymous note or picture on a canvas from 12-4 p.m. The finished canvases will be given to children living in hospitals to receive treatment.
ENACTUS is an organization promoting partnership between leaders in business and students.
The event is in association with CURE Childhood Cancer Association, who work to improve the lives of children diagnosed with cancer and their families by providing emotional, educational, social and financial assistance, according to the CURE website.
“Hospital rooms are so bare and boring. We wanted to make sure we could do something to directly benefit the kids, as well as fundraise for CURE,” said junior, Stephanie Dolliver, one of the creators of the project.
Canvas for a CURE began when Dolliver met with St. Bonaventure alumn and Associate Director of CURE, Holly Dutcher, this past summer. CURE helped Dolliver’s then six-year-old friend, Sara, when she was diagnosed with cancer. She and her family were so grateful for CURE that Dolliver said she reached out to fellow ENACTUS member, Maria Liotta, and the project was in the works.
During the event, there are chances for those in attendance to win prizes to various spots in the community including Sports Locker, Family Video, Applebee’s and Walmart.
Dolliver said she hopes to see Canvas for a CURE expand to recruit more students and raise more money year after year, including a possible event in the Rathskeller this spring.
The event takes place in the Quick Center for the Arts Loft and is open to the public. Dolliver said all are invited to “like” the Facebook page created, Canvas for a CURE, for more information as well as the website, sites.google.com/site/sbucanvasforacure to sign up in advance or donate for the event.
