Don’t like Clare classes? Do something about it

Being a senior, I have almost finished all of my Clare courses. I feel that some of them are very good, while others need some serious attention. I think that Inquiry into the Natural World, also known as “Natty World,” is not quite deserving of the bad reputation that is has.

I think students get upset because this class is difficult and it requires students to think critically. At the end of the day, isn’t critical thinking an important skill to have?

Every student has to take the courses of Clare College. The university is also open to listening to students concerns about their Clare courses. However, if students aren’t making their concerns known, then nothing can be done about your complaint.

Dean Imhoff sent around a survey on CLAR-101 and CLAR-302 a few weeks ago and had hoped to get a majority of the student’s voices heard. However, only about 100 students responded to that survey.

If students want things to change on this campus, they need to speak up, because Dean Imhoff is only trying to help us. The survey will be sent via email again today, will be open for a couple more weeks, and we need all of the students to take the five minutes and fill this out.

In your comments on this survey, please be as constructive as possible and don’t just say, “I hate natty world.” Constructive feedback will make real change happen.

Non-constructive feedback that has no substantive purpose makes change impossible. Dean Imhoff wants what is best for the students and he is trying his best to do that. In order to do that we need student voice. Please fill out the survey, and please be constructive.

As surveys continue to come out we need students to voice their concerns in them. In order to address issues, the more students who raise it, the more it resonates with those who make decisions on campus. Let the administration hear your voice.

SGA will also be hosting town hall meetings to get the concerns of students as well in order to relay those messages in a formal avenue to the administration. Come to those and let us know what we can do to help facilitate conversations for students and the administration.
