The women’s basketball team begins its season with an exhibition game tomorrow against Edinboro University at 2 p.m. The Bonnies return a host of players who started for them last year. Junior forward Katie Healy returns after being named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team last year, and junior guard Nyla Rueter comes back after being named to the second team. The team also returns junior point guard Emily Michael and junior forward Hannah Little, who was named Atlantic 10 Sixth Woman of the Year last season. Sophomore Gabby Richmond also returns after starting most of last season. The team lost senior guard Chelsea Bowker and fifth-year senior walk-on guard Jill Murphy. Sophmore guard Oney Harrison also transferred. However, the Bonnies will also have senior guard Ashley Zahn return to the court after being out all last season due to injury. The team adds four new freshmen to the roster: guard Mariah Ruff, guard/forward Taryne Shull, forward Matea Britvar and forward Miranda Drummond.
The men’s basketball team will open up its season tomorrow in an exhibition game against Mansfield University. The game is set to start at 4 p.m., after the women’s exhibition. The Bonnies will return three starters from last season: senior center Youssou Ndoye, senior guard Jordan Gathers and senior guard Andell Cumberbatch. Junior forward Dion Wright is also an important returning member of the team, stepping up into a starting role. The team will have to overcome the loss of last year’s senior point guard Charlon Kloof, guard Matthew Wright and forward Marquise Simmons. The Bonnies add three freshmen to the team: guard Idris Taqqee, guard Jaylen Adams and forward Jordan Tyson. Along with the new recruits, there are two junior college transfers joining the team this year as well-guard Iakeem Alston and guard Marcus Posley. Freshman guard Jalen Adams will also be on the team this year after redshirting last season.
