The St. Bonaventure community is preparing to celebrate Super Bowl XLIX, with the Seattle Seahawks taking on the New England Patriots. This will be the Seahawks’ second Super Bowl appearance, while the Patriots return for their eighth Super Bowl game.
Although most of the St. Bonaventure community is ready for this hugely anticipated event, there are still a number of people who have not made the necessary arrangements to celebrate the Super Bowl. Those who are still looking for something fun to do should consider some of the different activities that are being held on campus. The Campus Activities Board (CAB) will serve 40-cent wings in the Rathskeller during the Super Bowl game. They encourage students to come out, enjoy wings and watch the game on the big screen. Regardless of team preference (Patriots or Seahawks), everyone can gather together to induldge in discounted wings.
CAB also handed out Super Bowl squares to students this past Wednesday and Thursday. The squares were free, but students must be present in the Skeller to win. Prizes will include gift cards for $25, $50 and $100, and the winning squares will be announced after each quarter.
Although many anticipate the game, a large portion of viewers look forward to the halftime show. This year, Katy Perry will perform her pop hits, and rumor has it she will be calling out fellow pop star Taylor Swift.
Christina Manuel, a freshman sports studies major, said she is excited for this Super Bowl.
“In my family, the Super Bowl is more than a game; it is a celebration that brings us together over food, drinks and the spirit of football,” Manuel said.
Although this will be her first Super Bowl away from home, Manuel says she looks forward to throwing her own Super Bowl party with close friends to cheer on the Seahawks.
Likewise, Conor Hynes, a sophomore music major and a devout Patriots fan, could not hold back his enthusiasm for Super Bowl Sunday.
“I don’t really have any specific plans to celebrate the Super Bowl, but just know that there will be lots of wings, pizza, brews and a whole lot of celebrating when the Patriots win.”
Whether you are a crazy Super Bowl fan, or crazy for pizza, wings and a halftime show full of fireworks, students should tune in this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. and join the spirit of the 49th Super Bowl.
