Western New Yorkers love Buffalo sports. While other areas of the country may ignore this great city, many locals are infatuated with its regional teams. So here it is: The BV’s take on all things Buffalo sports.
Sabres
Pigs have flown.
In the past four games, the Sabres have won two—count them, two—games. The first came from a 3-2 shootout victory over the Philadelphia Flyers and the second came in a 4-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Despite the “hot streak,” Buffalo is still dead last in the NHL, although they are now only five points behind the Edmonton Oilers. They sit with an 18-35-5 record and have managed to accumulate 41 points. Let the race for Connor McDavid commence.
On another Sabres note, NHL prospect Jack Eichel made an intoxicated nod to Buffalo fans. Eichel chose to celebrate his Beanpot victory by filling the trophy with beer, all while being videotaped. The 18 year old then told all Buffalo fans, “I’m coming for ya!” and proceeded to chug a can of Bud Light. Perhaps not an advised move for an underage potential superstar, but it’s at least clear that, in the mind of Eichel, he’s heading to the right city.
Bills
As the Bills are looking at the 2015 season in a new-found competitive manner, mixed reports have emerged that Buffalo has been seeking a trade for St. Louis Rams’ quarterback Sam Bradford. With no first round picks in the coming draft, this would be a clear sign that neither Coach Rex Ryan, nor the Bills’ front office has confidence in the talents of E.J. Manuel and would rather test their luck in the trade market.
After tearing his ACL in a preseason game, Bradford sat out all of last season. In 2012, his last full season, Bradford recorded 3,702 yards, 21 touchdowns and 13 interceptions to rack up an 82.6 QB rating.
Bandits
Buffalo’s favorite lacrosse team has fallen to third place in the East Division of the NLL. With a 4-5 record, the Bandits sit behind the Rochester Knighthawks (5-3) and the Toronto Rock (7-1) for first place.
