St. Bonaventure students can wipe the sweat from their brows as they escape exams at least for a week. As the last classes before spring break wind down, students are packing and planning their return home.
Students said spring break last year was inconvenient for them because of how early it was, starting Feb. 22. Many students were not able to attend the retirement of alumn Andrew Nicholson’s basketball jersey because it was scheduled over break.
This year, the break is starting on March 7, a week later than last year. With the later break, one plan for students is to support the men’s basketball team.
“[My friends and I] are planning to get together and take a trip to Brooklyn to watch the A-10 tournament,” Amir Dastoori, a sophomore accounting major, said.
Last season, some Bonnies made a last-minute trip to Brooklyn due to classes being in session. Now with the tournament over break, students can attend the game without having to worry about class.
Some students said they are using this time to travel somewhere warmer, while others are just looking forward to spending time away from school and with their families.
“I did not have time in the summer because I worked on campus, and for Christmas break I was traveling with the women’s basketball team,” Diego Emiliano, a sophomore business major, said. “I finally have time to enjoy being at home.”
One student cannot wait to return home to receive a special present.
“My mom is buying me a car when I go back home for break,” Ashley Jordan, a sophomore education major, said.
However, some students, such as athletes, do not have the opportunity to go home for break.
“I have to stay on campus for lacrosse and will not be able to go home until summer,” Jalen Middlebrooks, a sophomore sports studies major, said. “It is not the best thing because I live Connecticut, and my family does not get to go to all of my games.”
This is the home stretch for some seniors and graduate students. Graduate student Adrian Urbaez is using this trip to bring things home to make his final trip home following graduation less stressful.
Students said they plan to enjoy themselves on this break because come March 16, it is back to studying hard and getting work done.
