Buffalo Brief

in Extra Point/SPORTS by

Western New Yorkers love Buffalo sports. While other areas of the country may ignore this great city, many locals are infatuated with its regional teams. So here it is: The BV’s take on all things Buffalo sports.

UB Basketball

After winning the MAC tournament last weekend, the Bulls earned their first-ever berth in the NCAA Tournament.  UB, a 12 seed, will take on fifth seed West Virginia this afternoon at 2:10 in Columbus, Ohio.  The Bulls are an underdog, but President Barack Obama has picked them to win their first game, so the United States government is behind the Bulls.

 Sabres

As has been the case all season, the Sabres cannot do anything right.  They can’t even tank properly.  Even after trading away both of their goaltenders and replacing them with clowns on ice, the Sabres found a way to mess things up and win.  Goalie Anders Lindback turned in a lights-out performance, holding the Boston Bruins to one goal Tuesday night and walking away with a 2-1 shootout victory.

The Sabres are trying to lose games, but if they continue to play like they did Tuesday, the only thing they will lose is their hold of the league’s worst record and the best chance to land prospect Connor McDavid.

 Bills

As the Bills continue to revamp their roster in an attempt to make the playoffs for the first time this millennium, they added another offensive weapon: wide receiver Percy Harvin.  Harvin, a former Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowl player, has bounced around the league, playing for three different teams in the last two seasons.

Harvin has explosive speed and is talented, but he is not well-liked by NFL executives who consider him to be trouble in the locker room.

But the clubhouse cancer may have found the right man to treat him. If Rex Ryan – who coached Harvin while both were with the Jets –can manage Harvin’s off the field antics, the Bills have added yet another piece to the playoff puzzle.
