Soak up the sun

With spring beginning today, students may have noticed all this Western New York snow starting to melt and the sun shining a little more than usual.  Some students said the sunshine might bring about newfound positivity.  Others said they are excited to start planning for upcoming events on and off campus

“Spring is symbolic of new beginnings,” freshman accounting major Cassina Carter said.  “It can serve as a fresh start for new relationships, study habits and adventures.  The campus is breathtaking in the winter, but the campus is so much more colorful in the spring—both scenery-wise and student-wise.  Everyone is interacting with each other in the most beautiful way.”

Students said they are attracted to St. Bonaventure because of its coexistence with nature—and spring is one of the prime seasons that shows this.  There is no better time for students and faculty to enjoy the outdoor activities that the area offers, they said.

Those who are feeling adventurous might enjoy a day exploring the Allegheny River Valley Trail or hiking in Allegheny State Park or Letchworth State Park.  For those with a form of transportation, students said rounding up a few friends to take a trip to Niagara Falls is an option as well.

While some may be feeling daring, other students said they simply enjoy spending time outside of their dorm rooms.  The field near the entrance to campus is open to students for recreation.

“My favorite thing about spring at Bona’s is seeing everyone outside enjoying the weather and doing whatever they can—frisbee, baseball, roller blading and all that fun stuff,” sophomore journalism and mass communication major Jessica Laursen said.

Along with the change of season comes the excitement of Bonaventure baseball games.  Students, faculty and locals said they enjoy sitting outside and watching the team compete. These events are great for anyone looking to see some competition, get in a little tanning time or are just looking for a place to hangout.

“Going to the baseball games is my favorite thing to do in the spring,” sophomore finance major Alyssa Honaker said.  “Everything comes back to life.  It becomes warmer and you start to see more people outside.”

Students said they often choose to take their studying from the library to the outdoors.  Enjoying the sun while cramming for finals can make the process a bit easier.  Also, getting to class on time will be easier—as many students hop back on their longboards and bicycles.

Even if students are stressing about upcoming deadlines and fast-approaching exams, students said spring sunshine offers a potential remedy.  Summer is not too far away after all.
