Features Assignment Editor
Being Features Assignment is incredibly easy. I do no work but I get a fancy title, and it’s great.
I kid.
But working for the features section is a fun job. Basically, I help come up with story ideas and, with the rest of the features team, I edit and help figure out layout. In addition, I write the fashion column and other stories regarding reviews, shows or whatever needs to be covered.
To be honest, I was terrified about becoming an editor for The Bona Venture. I only began writing for the paper a semester before I got the editor position. I had no experience with Adobe In Design and I had never edited anything except my own work. I’m fairly shy and didn’t have much experience in taking leadership. But after the first few weeks of getting used to the process of printing a newspaper, I found myself settling into the routine and gaining confidence. And there is no greater feeling than picking up the paper and seeing the pages that I have helped to put together. Being able to see the results of our hard work every week keeps me going.
My favorite part of the job has to be cutting the pages when they print. Our printer prints each page into four separate pages that need to be cut and pasted together for the desk editors to look over. Honestly, I love the sound of the paper cutter. I love fitting the words together. And I’m not kidding, I like getting the pages back with all of the red marks of edits to make. Because crossing off each edit after it has been completed feels really good. And when the final edits are finally made on Thursday afternoon, it feels amazing.
I am lucky to work with such an amazing team of people and to get to go on this bona (ad) venture. Pun 100% intended.
