The Princeton Review listed Bonaventure on its 2016 list for the Best 380 Colleges.
The university is one of only about 15 percent of American colleges to be named to the list for this year.
Emily Morris, vice president for student affairs, said the university looks at the Princeton Review rankings every year.
“It has a solid brand in the marketplace in terms of recognition,” Morris said.
A release on the Princeton Review website states that Bonaventure is noted for its basketball and terrible weather, as well as its alcohol consumption.
According to Morris, university administrators appreciate the Princeton Review’s attention to Bonaventure’s status as an excellent academic institution.
However, she also notes, “We think that [the Princeton Review] is trivializing things like the abuse of alcohol on college campuses,” by publishing reviews on the best colleges for hard liquor consumption.
“You should take a look at how rankings were derived, and use your own judgment to see if it’s something you should pay attention to,” Morris said.
Bonaventure was named in three rankings in the Princeton Review for 2016, including ‘Best 380 Colleges’, ‘Best Northeastern’ colleges; and ‘Lots of hard alcohol,’ coming in at number 13.
