As tests, presentations and homework are coming to a close, students are getting ready for midterm break this Saturday through Tuesday.
Maddy McDonald, a sophomore accounting major, is going home to spend time with her family and dog, she said.
“I’m excited to just relax after all of the tests and projects I’ve had this week,” McDonald said. “I’ll miss my friends at Bonaventure, but I’m excited to see some of my friends from back home.”
But some students have to stay on campus to attend sports practices instead of seeing their loved-ones and cuddly pets, they said.
Kess Thompson, a sophomore sports studies major, is staying on campus for the break because she is on the women’s swimming and diving team, she said.
“I wish I was going home,” Thompson said. “I miss my family and dogs. We have two morning lifts a week at 5:45 a.m., two morning practices at 6:45 a.m. and then diving practice everyday besides Sunday for two hours.”
Thompson, however, is excited to catch up on schoolwork and bond with some teammates.
Other students live too far to journey home for a short break, they said.
Emily Rosman, a junior journalism and mass communication major, plans on staying at Bona’s for the October break, because she lives in Long Island.
“Since I’m staying here, I’m super excited to go to the haunted hay ride in Ellicottville with some of my other friends who are staying on campus, and also the fall festival there later this week,” Rosman said. “I might take a day trip to a Buffalo mall too, but I’m mostly just taking the break to relax and de-stress after these last crazy five weeks.”
But other students go home to make a little extra cash, instead of spending money on fun, they said.
Courtney Biehls, a senior psychology major, plans on going home to work at a winery/brewery. She said it is their busiest season and loves to help whenever she can.
“I’m most excited to see my friends from home and even my work friends,” Biehls said. “They are all people that I love getting to hang out with, and I miss them while I’m at school. It’ll be nice to see them again.”
For those who are not going home or have the ability to relax, Thanksgiving break is right around the corner.
