Despite the snow flurries, admissions was pleased with the the open house’s success on Oct. 17, according to Monica Emery, director of volunteer relations and events.
The first of three open houses attracted 45 prospective students. Emery said she believes more students will attend the next two open houses, but did not provide details of exact numbers.
“Attendance typically grows as we move through the application season,” Emery said.
None of the high school students in attendance committed to Bonaventure yet, but Emery said this is to be expected.
“Students are in the exploratory stage,” Emery said. “Therefore, we would not expect them to commit while at a fall admissions event.”
Brianna Wilson, a senior education major, gave campus tours during the open house and said she enjoyed the event.
“The best part of open houses is getting to see students, faculty and staff from all parts of our campus community joining together to open our home to prospective students,” Wilson said.
According to Emery, the schedule of events for the second open house on Oct. 25 will be altered to incorporate Mass and to accommodate a larger group of prospective students.
“Many families commented on how informative, well-organized and enjoyable the day was for them,” Emery said.
Wilson said she hopes for more student involvement at the next open house.
“Prospective students really enjoy meeting the current students and learning how they are involved with campus life,” Wilson said.
According to Emery, an online survey has been sent to participants, but feedback has not been evaluated yet.
