Western New Yorkers love Buffalo sports.
While other areas of the country may ignore this great city, many locals are infatuated with its regional teams. So here it is: The BV’s take on all things Buffalo sports.
Bills
Are there any people out there that still believe in EJ Manuel? Anyone, anyone at all? Nope, didn’t think so. Losing three out of the team’s four home games is one thing, but getting down by 24 points in the second quarter against the Jaguars in front of the whole world is simply embarrassing. The Bills did end up coming back to take a brief lead in the fourth quarter, only to see it go away with an Allen Hurns touchdown in the corner of the end zone. The Bills are on a bye this week, although they will probably find a way to lose that, too. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor has missed the last two games due to injury, but the week off will give him a chance to play in the Bills’ next game at home against the rival Miami Dolphins. Buffalo sits at 3-4 and miraculously only one game out of a wild card spot. In the AFC, it will take at least a 6-3 finish for the Bills to even be in consideration of making the postseason.
Sabres
Only nine games into this young 2015-16 season, the Sabres have already suffered their second long-term injury. Opening night, they lost starting goalie Robin Lehner and now forward Evander Kane. Kane’s injury is causing him to miss four to six weeks time. Buffalo was able to take down the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night in overtime by a score of 4-3, giving them as many wins as the other underachieving Buffalo team (3 wins). Ryan O’Reilly has been quite hot as of late registering eight points in nine games, which leads the team. After a couple of fast goals to start the year, Jack Eichel has cooled down during this last five-game stretch. Eichel had his 19th birthday on Wednesday; let’s just hope O’Reilly doesn’t drive him up north of the border. It is still too early to tell if this team is good enough or ready to compete for a playoff spot, but one thing is for certain, the future is looking bright for at least one Buffalo team.
