This past weekend, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Richmond, Virginia, to compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships. The women’s team placed 14th at the event while the men’s team finished 13th out of 14 teams on the day.
Both teams saw standout performances from their senior leaders as Aubrie Russell finished 98th with a time of 19:20.3 in the girls’ race, and Joe Ferencik’s time of 26:47.9 placed him at 97th out of 126.
Other notable performances from the women’s team included freshman Emily Izydorcak whose time of 19:31.7 resulted in a 105th place finish, and sophomore Hailey Gattuso, who placed 112th with her 19:47.8 time. The men’s team saw another solid outing from freshman Caleb Johnson who finished in 100th place with a time of 27:00.3.
Although the final result may have not been what the teams were looking for, both standout seniors were very proud of their teams’ ability to show up and compete.
“I think the team showed a lot of guts. This was an important race, and I don’t think anyone backed down from the challenge,” Russell said. “Even though not everyone hit their time goals, I feel that we represented Bonaventure well. I also loved the fact that there was a lot of support; a lot of people both on and off the team came together for us on Saturday. I am proud to be on this team.”
Ferencik showed just as much pride in his team’s performance as Russell displayed.
