Letter to the Editor: Message from SGA

in OPINION by

Greetings,

One week ago, a group of students at the University of Missouri banded together in solidarity to protest inaction in the face of oppression. The students courageously stood up to administrators who refused to acknowledge that they were contributing to a climate of inequality and discrimination.

The University of Missouri has reaffirmed our commitment to fostering a community marked by right relationships and creating an inclusive environment where all people are celebrated, regardless of their race, ethnicity, culture, religious affiliation and sexual orientation. Yale, Ithaca, Berkeley High School, and other institutions across the nation have demonstrated their support their peers at The University of Missouri in similar ways as we do today.

As representatives of the governing student body here at St. Bonaventure University, we are a unified voice of the people. We strive to create an environment that respects, reflects, and protects the interests of the St. Bonaventure student body.

In keeping with our Franciscan values of community inclusiveness and respect for the individual dignity of all, we support all who advocate for justice in our educational institutions. To students of color at Mizzou, to all students of color, we at St. Bonaventure stand with you in solidarity. To those who would threaten your sense of safety, we are watching.

Yours in Solidarity,

Your Student Government Association
