The Men’s Basketball team earned its fifth win of the season Saturday evening, defeating the Ohio University Bobcats, 81-68.
The Bonnies could not stop the three ball and went basket for basket with the Bobcats. Getting it going by the end of the first half, senior guard Marcus Posley hit a buzzer beater to end the half and put the Bonnies up 37-35.
The Bonnies came out in the second half flat and just couldn’t find the bottom of the basket. Luckily, the Bobcats were just as cold on the offensive side of the ball. The Bonnies finally got it going with 10 minutes left in the game, when they went on a big run and extended their lead to seventeen. From there they went on to close the game out.
Leading scorer for the Bonnies was sophomore guard Jaylen Adams with 22 points, six rebounds and six assists. Right behind him were seniors Dion Wright and Marcus Posley. Posley scored 19 points and added four rebounds and five assists, while Wright had 14 points and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
Coming into the game with an under-sized team, Head Coach Mark Schmidt was very pleased with his team’s play style, he said.
“I was really proud of our effort today; we beat a really good Ohio team, a team that was much bigger than we were,” Schmidt said. “Defensively, we played better. In the second half we got off to a rocky start, but I thought the guys covered [because] we went to a 2-3 zone.”
Adams said that he just stayed with the game plan, and he added his coach’s confidence was a big help.
“We came into the game with the game plan, that we had to attack the ball screens better,” Adams said. “[Head Coach Mark Schmidt] Coach just told me to keep attacking and when he gives me that much confidence good things happen.”
The Bonnies will take on the University of Vermont Catamounts on Tuesday at home in the Reilly Center at 7 p.m.
