Farewell editorial: BV EIC ends term

Editor-in-Chief

I’ve spent a lot of extra time in the newsroom this week.

Partly because it’s a great place to hide from the reality of finals.

But mostly because I know it’s the last week I will be a part of the upper-management team for The BV. My last week as editor-in-chief.

And that is tough to let go of, because I have a lot of great memories from helping to run the paper. Both this semester and last, as managing editor and EIC, I had the opportunity to work with two people who are really great editors and leaders.

I will miss being the last one to leave the newsroom in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

I will miss an inbox full of stories on Wednesday, just waiting for me to bombard them with comments in my signature purple.

I will miss racing to send all our pages to the publisher before our deadline, and I will miss the temporary sigh of relief when everything is done for the week before the chaos of the next week begins.

I could go on and on about what I’ll miss, but it’s a lot more fun to write about what’s next for The BV.

There is no other word to describe the upper-management team of next semester but exceptional. Hannah Gordon will be a great leader as editor-in-chief, and I have total confidence in her journalistic potential. There are few people who have more dedication to The BV than she does. Managing editors Julia Mericle and Diana McElfresh are two of the most-talented and dedicated journalists I have had the opportunity to work with, and their genuine and kind personalities will work well with next semester’s editorial staff.

It will be a great staff. Rachel Konieczny, Nick Konotopskyj, Corey Krajewski and Emmy Kolbe will handle their sections with the same top-notch skills their predecessors taught them this semester.

With journalists like Ethan Kibbe, Lian Bunny, Lauren Zazzara, Emily Mulcahey, Andrea Fernandes, Zach Waltz, Liam McGurl, Jonathan Sawyer, Ethan MaKrell, Dominic LoVallo and Christina Root, The BV will be better than ever.

And I am not putting away my red pen for good, of course. I will be back next semester as an advisory editor for The BV, helping to copyedit and assisting the staff.

Because, as any seasoned BVer will tell you, The BV is not just a club you belong to.

It’s a part of who you are.

Thank you.
