“Now, having served nearly 12 years as your President, I begin this new year and new academic semester confident it is the right time and the correct season to announce my intention to make this spring semester my last as the 20th President of St. Bonaventure University,” Sr. Margaret wrote.

According to the letter, the Board of Trustees has already begun the process to find the 21st president.

Sr. Margaret wrote that the decision to retire was not easy. She noted several reasons for the particular timing of her retirement, including the upcoming implementation of “major new institutional goals;” an increase in fundraising goals; and recent “significant changes to the higher education landscape,” all of which would benefit from a change of leadership, according to the letter.

Sr. Margaret plans to go on sabbatical following her retirement, and noted that she will continue to provide support to the university post-retirement.
