Strangers in the night

“Some day, When I’m awfully low/ When the world is cold/ I will feel a glow just thinking of you/ And the way you look tonight.”
These are the touching lyrics to Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight,” the song sophomores Anna Rine and Luc Pizzone danced to the night they met.
Rine and Pizzone, both marketing majors, met freshman year while both lived on the first floor of Robinson Hall. As many college students do, they began hanging out one weekend night after meeting at a party.
“I saw Luc and this other kid who lived on my floor, and I decided to walk back with them,” Rine said. “The whole way back I sang Frank Sinatra songs, trying to impress Luc with my ‘different’ taste in music. Honestly though, who doesn’t know Frank Sinatra? He joined in with me, and I thought to myself ‘Oh yes, he knows.’ As we arrived on campus, I got a wave of bravery and grabbed his hand.”
Rine recalled that when the two made it back to the dorms, they tried to watch “Zombieland,” but after discovering it didn’t hold their attention, they turned on music videos instead.
Eventually, Frank Sinatra made his way to the speakers and the two shared their first slow dance and first kiss. Rine said they began dating about a month later, and “The rest is history.”
“The first time I saw Anna, we were in the Rob lounge for a floor meeting,” said Pizzone. “I thought she was pretty cute, and her Vans were really cool. Whenever I saw her around Rob we didn’t really say hi, just nodded at each other. She seemed like one of those girls who thought they were a bit ‘too cool for school.’ However, I thought she was cool and honestly, I had a little crush on her.”
Rine admitted she didn’t plan on finding love. Instead, it found her.
“Coming into college, I wasn’t really looking for a relationship, but I am really glad that night happened, and I am especially glad it happened with Luc,” Rine said.
The duo said they didn’t do anything together last Valentine’s Day, because Luc was supposed to be out of town for a hockey game. As is typical for Western New York, a blizzard struck the area and the game was cancelled. Rine’s friends visited that night, so the couple hung out among a group of friends.
Since the couple didn’t get the chance to have a real Valentine’s Day together last year, they made sure to plan ahead this time.
“This Valentine’s Day, we are going to a Sabres game,” said Rine. “Luc’s favorite sport is hockey, and I love Buffalo, so it goes hand in hand. I’m very excited.”
Rine and Pizzone both agreed that Valentine’s Day is a cliché holiday but appreciate that it’s an excuse to do something out of the norm.
“I’m not a Sabres fan, but I never get to go to games so it will be awesome, especially since I get to spend that time with Anna,” Pizzone said.
