Western New Yorkers love Buffalo sports.
While other areas of the country may ignore this great city, many locals are infatuated with its regional teams. So here it is: The BV’s take on all things Buffalo sports.
Bills
Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy got involved in a bar fight in Philadelphia back on Feb. 7. He fought two off-duty police officers and they both ended up going to the hospital. McCoy’s attorney defended the star running back this week saying that he did nothing wrong. Whether he gets suspended or not, McCoy’s offseason is off to a horrible start and this is an issue that Buffalo certainly doesn’t want to deal with.
Bandits
The Buffalo Bandits are riding high after a seven goal win over the Georgia Swarm on Valentine’s Day by a score of 21-14. Forward Dhane Smith, who leads the NLL in points, added 13 more to that total on Sunday. The win improves the Bandits record to 4-2 on the season, which is good for a tie in the Eastern division with New England. Next up for Buffalo is a trip Friday to Toronto to face the Rock before heading back home to face the Georgia Swarm once again at the First Niagara Center on Saturday night.
Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres went 2-0-1 this past week picking up wins at home against the Colorado Avalanche and the Montreal Canadiens. The Sabres lost in a shootout to the Ottawa Senators Tuesday night by a score of 2-1. One storyline coming out of that game is veteran Matt Moulson scored ending a 45 game scoreless drought. Coming into the game, forward Evander Kane made headlines for being suspended for the game against the Senators by the team. Kane broke a team rule by missing a practice when he went to the NBA All Star Game. He made an apology to the team and management, but this is not the first time Kane has shown immaturity. The Sabres also made headlines this past week because TSN analyst Bob McKenzie said that if superstar Steven Stamkos were to choose a team to be traded to or sign to, he said Stamkos should choose Buffalo. The Sabres will be in Columbus tonight to face the Blue Jackets and will be back home this Sunday to face the Pittsburgh Penguins.
