The 24th Semi-Annual DC Fashion Week came to a stylish end with its International Couture Fashion Showcase at Carnegie Library, featuring celebrity hosts Guy Lambert from WPGC 95.5FM and Bianca Golden from America’s Next Top Model.
Ten elite international designers from fashion capitals such as Serbia, Sweden and even DC adorned the stage with their exclusive 2016 autumn/winter collections. Amongst the biggest collections of the night was Corjor International designed by Ean Williams, the founder and executive director of DC Fashion Week.
Following the presentation of his collection, Williams said to the crowd, “It’s a challenge every season to find motivation to come out with a new collection every six month in preparation for fashion week. But I really love my city. I just believe that Washington, DC deserves my best and everyone’s best, so I wanted to give that to you.”
He added that his ultimate goal is to make Washington, DC a center of international fashion, being that it is home to so many different embassies and cultural groups that have such diverse and wonderful talent.
“We believe that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and colors, and we’re happy to use this platform to connect our international and home designers,” he said.
The collection was reminiscent of the Baroque period, a movement during the 17th century that merged complex and luxurious elements to create new unorthodox forms of art. Williams featured an array of elegant red-carpet pieces for both men and women, including gowns and tuxedos embedded in beautiful gold lace and bold floral prints. He also placed edgy vanguard-inspired accessories at the forefront of the show, including decorative black wing headpieces and ruffled dress train.
