On Tuesday, Rob Daugherty, Chair of the Board of Trustees, Robert discussed St. Bonaventure’s search for a new university president in the Hayes Conference Room of Hopkins Hall.
During the press conference, Daugherty talked about the next steps the search committee is going to have to take in order to find a new university president.
When forming the committee, there was a focus on forming a smaller group of individuals that carry a wide range of perspectives that represent the campus community, Daugherty said.
According to Daugherty, the committee first filled out an anonymous survey designed to indicate what the board most was looking for in a new president.
“We started by giving our board members a very extensive survey to both talk about attributes and leadership qualities and characteristics,” Daugherty said.
Daugherty continued to say that the board plans to assemble all the data gathered from the survey, which had a very high response rate, and go over the results with the rest of the search committee during today’s board meeting in Doyle Hall.
Daugherty also mentioned that once the board reviews the survey results, they want to communicate with the Bonaventure campus community to find out about what they want in a new president, so they can start to form a draft of the presidential job description.
“We want to make sure we hear extensively from the campus community, so we will take that draft and start to change it, and alter it based on what we hear from the campus community,” Daugherty said.
Daugherty also said that the committee is not near a draft stage right now, but they still on plan on communicating with the campus community to help form and revise the draft once they reach that point of the search process.
According to Daugherty, communication with the outside world is a very important factor throughout the whole search process.
“We’ve set up a portal that we intend on communicating to the outside world what’s going on inside this committee,” Daugherty said. “I think a part of it is to make sure that everybody feels like they’re a part of this process.”
Another factor playing into the presidential search process is the university’s need to hire an interim president for next fall semester. According to Daugherty, the newly appointed search committee will have no part in deciding upon an interim president, but they will begin forming the interim president search committee immediately after the board’s meeting today.
Daugherty said he is also very happy with the timeliness in which the search committee was named and he hopes that they can continue to meet all the deadlines as the search process continues.
