The Student Government Association (SGA) plans to make some major changes in administration this year, officials said.

Anneliese Quinlan, executive board president of the SGA, said the board will focus on increasing cooperation with the senate, part of the legislative branch of SGA and gaining input from them.

“In the past, there seemed to be lots of dictating, not necessarily in a bad way,” said Quinlan. Increasing senate input would lessen that she believes.

“We are also trying to gain a better sense of community and know each other better,” she added.

The SGA recently held a dinner after the judicial board was appointed, where every member of the club was able to relax in a less formal setting. Members sat by people they didn’t know well, in an attempt to increase community relations.

Quinlan added another change she continues to make is how the board appoints nominees. This year, judicial board nominees were invited to a special meeting where they told the members of the senate more about themselves and why they were qualified for the position. The senate was then able to get to know the nominees more and give feedback before appointing new members. This happened again on Tuesday, for the Secretary nominees, prior to new members being sworn in on Thursday.

The SGA is the biggest it’s been in a while because more spots are being filled, Quinlan says. All positions are trying to be filled. They are in the process of confirming all committees for the year and charging them with tasks.

“Not much is the same as it was last year,” Quinlan said. Of course there are still general format meetings. The goal of the SGA continues to be to advocate for students, bring issues to administration and improve student life.

Other than that, Quinlan says the St. Bonaventure community should all to “stay tuned” for more changes happening in the near future.
