At St. Bonaventure University there are many ways to get across campus such as walking, driving or using safety and security.
Safety and security is a common transportation for those who do not have a car. Some students said they consider using safety and security beneficial for all on campus.
Sean Lynch, a junior journalism and mass communication major, said safety and security’s transportation assistance is welcomed.
“I believe that safety and security is important to all students,” said Lynch. “I think they are helpful and always there to help when needed.”
However, according to Lynch, using safety and security excessively for a ride can lead to charging students for a ride in the future.
“I think students should be more considerate. I don’t think it should be every day that they ask for a ride,” said Lynch. “I have seen students abuse the ride system so it would be helpful in curbing people from using the rides so much. It should only be reserved for inclement weather and in the case of emergency. They shouldn’t be just viewed as taxi drivers because they are more than that.”
Other students such as Joseph Fulmore, a sophomore strategic communication major, agreed safety and security is beneficial for students on campus; however, he added safety and security should not be used as a taxi service.
“Safety and security is a big part of Bonaventure, and it is beneficial to students. I do believe that students should be more considerate when asking for rides,” said Fulmore. “Yes, they are here to help students, but they are not an Uber service.”
Although there are some students who feel safety and security shouldn’t be used excessively for rides, Ben Abbott, a freshman journalism and mass communication major, said he believes otherwise.
“…I do think safety security is beneficial because it is necessary to have on campus,” said Abbott. “But it’s safety and security’s job to help students, especially for a ride. If they want to charge money for rides across campus, I think that’s pushing it. I already pay a lot to come to this school, and it’s the least they could do.”
