The St. Bonaventure University men’s tennis team struggled Sunday in their away match against Cleveland State, losing 6-1.

Freshman Guillermo Garcia was the only Bonnie to win in his singles match after battling sophomore William Malm close. Garcia lost the first set then came back and beat Malm 10-8.

Junior Hector Martinez won his first set 6-4, but ultimately fell to his opponent, senior Colton Buffington, after three close sets.

After a very successful match against Binghamton on Saturday, sophomore Indra Patwardhan fell to his Cleveland State opponent, junior Mirko Radosevic, 6-2 in two sets.

Freshman John Rustkowski also played a tight match to start, dropping the first set 6-3 to sophomore Benjamin Slade, but was swept out 6-0 by Slade in the second set.

All three doubles teams lost to Cleveland State, with partners Rutkowski and Garcia coming the closest to winning, but losing 6-3 to their opponents Malm and senior Andre Mick.

Martinez and his doubles partner, junior Victor Blanco, did not complete their match against senior Colton Boffington and junior Kevin Goth.

With this loss, the St. Bonaventure tennis team is now 3-7 this season with 12 matches to go before A10s.

The Bonnies will next play Wednesday at home against Wright State at 11 a.m.
