Hip hop fans might have been caught off guard with Cardi B’s new hit song “Bodak Yellow,” but Cardi’s rap career has been increasingly successful within the past year. She boasts her independence, wealth and confidence.

In a brief interview with MTV, Cardi B explains she stays humble, but felt like she deserved a chance to talk about her “money moves.” According to Rap Genius, “Bodak Yellow” was No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart and No. 3 on Billboard Hot 100.

Cardi B’s real name is Belcalis Almanzar, originally from the Bronx in NYC, but now resides in Edgewater, New Jersey. She spent a portion of her life dancing in clubs until she gained recognition for her uniqueness.

Joining the cast of “Love & Hip Hop: New York” in 2015 helped her gain more publicity with her well-known, honest and open personality. After leaving the show December of 2016, she had other guest appearances and played a role for the show “Being Mary Jane.”

In the chorus of her hit “Bodak Yellow,” Cardi B flaunts her independence. “If I see you and I don’t speak, that means I don’t f*** with you” and calls herself a “boss.” Later on, she speaks of still receiving checks from Mona Scott, the executive producer of “Love & Hip Hop.”

Part of Cardi B’s career thus far has included her crooked smile. In May 2016, Cardi B had dental procedures to adjust her teeth. In the first verse, she raps, “got a bag and fixed my teeth, hope you h*** know it ain’t cheap.” This song is seeping with Cardi B’s infamous energy.

Fans of Kodak Black can recognize the beat of “Bodak Yellow” from his hit “No Flockin,” which is part of the word play for her song title.

Through all the fame and wealth, fans can still spot her devotion to family. Towards the end of the first verse, she talks of supporting her mother financially.

Fans anxiously await Cardi B’s next hit as her career is taking off. Hip Hop lovers will be on the lookout for any hints at an upcoming album.
