The St. Bonaventure women’s soccer team worked to a draw in double overtime with the UMass Lowell River Hawks today at the Marra Athletics Field Complex, ending the game with a score of 0-0. The Bonnies record is now 0-5-1.
The River Hawks came out strong, controlling the pace of the game throughout most of the first half. However, the Bonnies got a huge momentum boost in the 83rd minute when the Red Hawks received a team red card, causing the ejection of their head coach.
Despite this and several quality chances, including a shot that rang off the crossbar and landed nearly over the goal line, the Bonnies were unable to get on the scoreboard.
The Red Hawks had 19 shots, four of which were on goal. The Bonnies tallied 12 shots, five of those landing on goal.
Bonnies goalkeeper Lauren Malcolm made four saves to earn the shutout, her first of the season. Her biggest stop came in the second overtime period when the River Hawks played a free kick into the box and got a clean chance on net.
The Brown and White will head north to Canisius College this Sunday for an afternoon match with the Golden Griffins at 4 p.m., then return home Friday, Sept. 15 for a 7 p.m. showdown with Buffalo.
