Fans of the show Blacklist can look forward to a thrilling episode while watching the premiere of season four. It begins right where season three left off.
Viewers have just learned that the main character, Agent Elizabeth Keen, who was thought to be dead, is not. Fans are instantly hooked into the action that preceded the opening episode of season four.
The majority of episode one is spent reconnecting viewers to the main characters, as well as reconnecting relationships between characters. As episode one unwraps, there are tense feelings between the characters due to the new knowledge that their colleague and friend has faked her death and was now kidnapped.
A relationship that has been especially strained by the fake death and eventual kidnap of Agent Keene and her family is that between Mr. Kaplan and Reddington. Prior to the season finale of season one, these two characters had a very close bond.
The first episode of season four kicks off just after Reddington has learned that Mr. Kaplan was the one who aided Agent Keene and her family in faking her death and escaping to Cuba. It is because of this that Reddington feels betrayed by Mr. Kaplan.
The man responsible for the kidnapping of Keene and her family claims to be Keene’s long-lost Russian father, Alexander Kirk (aka Constantine Rostova). Kirk preaches that he has the means to prove that he is her father and that Reddington stole her from him when she was just a young girl.
“You were my entire life, you were all your mother and I cared about,” Kirk affirms. “You don’t know any of that, because Raymond Reddington took you away when you were just a little girl.” Keene points out that if Kirk were her father, perhaps he wouldn’t be holding her and her family hostage. He responds with a sound argument, though, saying, “Everything I did was to get my child away from Reddington. Who could understand that more than you?”
The relationship between Reddington and Keene has always been a bit odd. Throughout the seasons, there have been several instances where the two are at odds. However, they seem to have a close connection that manages to always persevere. In episode one of season 4, the relationship between Reddington and Keene is almost destroyed.
Reddington feels as though he has completely lost her, until he discovers her location and she tells him that he has to be the one who finds her baby. He responds with, “Elizabeth, I will come for you,” and disappears to search Keene’s baby.
By the end of the episode, we don’t know much more information than we did at the beginning. Agent Keene is still in the grasp of Alexander Kirk, her alleged father and kidnapper. Keene’s infant daughter is still kidnapped and nowhere to be found.
Her husband is preparing an army, so he says, to find Keene and their daughter and kill Kirk. So much is still left in the air, viewers are left highly anticipating the next episode.
