Pauline Hoffmann, Ph.D., is preparing to make a change in her career here on campus.

Hoffmann returned to campus as a faculty member in 2006 and five years later became the interim dean. Then, in 2012, she became the official dean of the Jandoli School of Communication.

During her time as dean, she has helped add to both undergraduate and graduate programs while moving the school forward into the online domain. She said she has also thoroughly enjoyed working with her colleagues.

“We have a very close-knit faculty here…we have a very close-knit family atmosphere,” Hoffmann said.

This will be one of the many aspects of working within the school of communication she will miss.

As dean, she hasn’t been able to interact with the students as much as she would have liked. She has had little time to teach more than one class since she took on the joint responsibility of being dean of graduate studies.

Hoffmann said she’s looking forward to devoting more time to her work in graduate studies and to teaching more classes in the spring semester when she will be the dean of graduate studies exclusively.

Hoffmann feels she has done what she can for the Jandoli School and is ready to do what she can to push the graduate programs forward.

“Graduate studies on campus aren’t treated in quite the same way as undergraduate,” she said.

She has been talking to other directors and deans on campus to see what they feel needs to be addressed and improved. Hoffmann is looking to spread the word about all of the graduate opportunities and increase the number of students in the graduate program.

She would like to make the graduate program more “coherent” and have more people enroll. She added that she hopes to use her skills and set the graduate programs up for as much success and improvements as those made in the School of Business. Hoffmann wants to be able to fix and pursue more opportunities that will help the program.

Even though she will miss her colleagues, Hoffmann is ready for her next step to make St. Bonaventure a place that offers countless opportunities. She is also excited to move into her new office that has been painted and prepared for her move.
